Make Your Own: Confectioners Sugar
A/K/A DIY Confectioners Sugar
Have you ever been in mid-recipe and run out of an ingredient?
I have, and one of those items is Confectioners Sugar.
Known especially for dessert frostings and glazes, confectioners sugar contains only 2 ingredients: sugar and cornstarch. You can use either a blender or coffee grinder. Since my blender isn’t the best, I prefer the coffee grinder.
In a large bowl, mix together:
2 cups Sugar
2 Tablespoons Cornstarch
If you’re using a blender, be sure to pause and stir, so it gets thoroughly blended. Once it is blended into a fine powder, store it in an airtight container.
If you’re using a coffee grinder, scoop appropriate portions into your grinder at a time. The mixture will be light, fluffy, and—thanks to the cornstarch—it will remain dry.
You’ve done it!
